About “Biblical Studies Notebook”

Profession: Academic

location: Morecambe, UK

My name is Karl Möller. I am Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies (focusing on biblical studies) and Course Leader for the MA in Theology at the University of Cumbria and Senior Tutor at the Lancashire and Cumbria Theological Partnership. My academic interests continue to develop, but they include the Minor Prophets (esp. the book of Amos), the Psalms and Genesis 1–11, as well as literary and theological hermeneutics, rhetorical criticism, speech act theory, and historical criticism. Aside from these academic interests, I enjoy good literature, cooking (and eating), music (esp. progressive rock) and I am an ardent supporter of FC Schalke 04. The principle aim of my blog is to introduce readers to useful books, web sites and tools for the study of biblical studies. However, no attempt has been or will be made to cover the entire field of biblical studies or to be comprehensive with regard to any one of the areas covered here. The primary reason for developing the blog was that I found myself spending a lot of time in lectures and tutorials introducing students to relevant books, which involved summarizing the content or reading out tables of contents in order that students would have a good idea of what to expect from the books in question. This was necessary partly because I am working with a very dispersed student body in a large rural area who do not always have easy access to a well-equipped library. Developing this blog I hope will save me some time in lectures and tutorials, because the kind of information that I would have provided in my sessions is now available online, such as tables of contents and some general information provided by the publishers. However, this blog is not restricted to books, as I shall also include information on articles and web sites that I have found useful and illuminating or that feature in my teaching. In addition, in some cases, I will also include personal summaries and reviews of books I have read as well as links to other reviews that I have come across.
