2006 Best Little Christmas Story Contest

I was at Barnes and Noble today and I saw this huge table of tiny little Christmas books, and I said to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a collection of little Christmas stories online?”

Well, maybe it wasn’t so much saying it to myself as just thinking it, but at the moment it seemed like a great idea and it still does so I’m going to go for it.

With that in mind, I’m pleased to announce that AuthorStore is sponsoring a holiday contest for the Best Little Christmas Story with a prize pot of $250 to be handed out in Barnes and Noble gift certificates.

Here’s how it works:

1) Stories must be no longer than 250 words.  Stories longer than 250 words will be automatically excluded from the contest (even if they are really, really good).

2) Stories must be received via email at editor@authorstore.com no later than midnight on 12/15/2006 (EST).

3) Winners will be announced here on AuthorStore.com and as well as via email to all participants at 6PM EST on 12/24/2006. (Christmas Eve!)

4) AuthorStore (i.e. this site sponsoring the contest - me) reserves the right to publish all stories received.  Basically, the goal is to post the best stories on the site by Christmas Day.

To enter, send a plain text email (plain text is important PDFs will be rejected and I sure won’t open any DOCs) to editor@authorstore.com.  Make sure to include the following:

1) Your Name
2) Your Website Address (if you have one)
3) Your postal address (so I know where to send the prize if you win!)
4) I’ll already have your email address as you are sending the story to me.

Here’s how the winners will break down:

First Prize: $100 Gift Card from B&N
Second Prize: $50 Gift Card from B&N
Third Prize: $25 Gift Card from B&N
Fourth Prize: $15 Gift Card from B&N
Fifth-Tenth Prize: $10 Gift Card from B&N

100+50+25+15+10+10+10+10+10+10 = 250.  Right?

For entries from outside the USA: I’ll be happy to arrange a similar gift card/certificate for Amazon or another bookstore of your choice where I can order online.  If you win, we’ll chat through email.

Why so many prizes?  Well, one of the prize committee readers thought it would be nice to have lots of opportunity for folks to win.  I agree even if it does seem like a lot of prizes.

This brings up a good point.  How will the winners be determined?  Simple enough.  We will read the stories and then we will pick the winners.  Best stories win.  Simple enough.

Should they be sad or happy?  For children or adults?  You decide!  This is pretty open-ended and our tastes are extremely varied.  Just go for what you feel and write the best little Christmas story you can!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hi folks.  I’ve extended the length of acceptable submissions to 500 words.
