About “book-blog.com”

Profession: Not Applicable

location: North Haven, CT

I'm the author of Trying Neaira: The True Story of a Courtesan's Scandalous Life in Ancient Greece (Yale University Press, 2003), which is a sometimes bawdy story about an ancient prostutite--nonfiction written for a general audience, so it assumes no prior knowledge of Greek culture or history. I've also written some scholarly papers and reviews and several articles now for Military History Quarterly. I've been spending a lot of time on the web. My book review site, book-blog.com (http://book-blog.blogspot.com) was my first blog, created in 2003. I write all the reviews myself, and have posted more than 150 at the site. The book-blog was followed by a site for more general observations, the-deblog.com (http://the-deblog.blogspot.com). I love blogging, and I love the idea of blogging. As for books, I created a site in the summer of 2005 that readers here should find interesting, Buy a Friend a Book (http://www.buyafriendabook.com). I urge visitors to the site to celebrate four Buy a Friend a Book weeks a year, the first weeks of January, April, July, and October. It's a lot of fun, actually, and lit bloggers have taken to the idea when they've heard about it. Good karma, good books, as the site says.

Favorite Authors
This is difficult. Looking at my book shelves at the authors with the most books represented I see Patricia Highsmith, Ken Follett, Somerset Maugham. But there are so many good authors out there.

Searching Member Sites
I’ve recently added a search function so that you can limit your Google search to just the blogs that are members of MetaxuCafe. I think that will be a good resource for everyone looking for literary topics online and you’ll find it right on the front page as well as other places on the site. Now if you want to read about, say Orhan Pamuk, but only want to search the litblogs you trust, you can narrow your search right here.
