About “A Life in Books”

Profession: Not Applicable

location: Charlotte, NC

My personal site is my reading blog, and then my husband and I just started Bookwormz (www.bookwormzonline.com), a site devoted to identifying independent bookstores (currently just in the US, although we're planning/hoping to expand globally) and thereby connecting readers with local alternatives to the chain bookstores. I work at a busy regional public library, in the circulation department, which I really enjoy. I'm also a freelance writer, currently contributing to Authorlink (www.authorlink.com), a website for writers and professionals in the publishing industry. I'm actively involved in BookCrossing (www.bookcrossing.com), so between that and my book club that meets every month, I'm getting to meet a lot of other booklovers in the Charlotte area. Besides reading, I have a keen interest in herbs and aromatherapy, like watching movies, and enjoy outdoorsy-type things like camping, geocaching and hiking. I have a severe case of wanderlust and love to travel.

Favorite Authors
In no particular order: Jasper Fforde, Helene Hanff, David Sedaris, Bill Bryson, Philip Pullman, Daniel Defoe, Barbara Kingsolver, Sue Townsend, Graham Joyce, Sarah Waters, JK Rowling, Margaret Atwood, and more.

Favorite Topics
I started my blog as a way of keeping track of what books I've read, and when, and what I thought of them. I also periodically post book/reading-related news, memes, or random tidbits that catch my interest. For me, the best thing about keeping a reading blog is connecting with other readers, learning about other authors and their books (and thereby increasing my ever-growing wishlist!).

Searching Member Sites
I’ve recently added a search function so that you can limit your Google search to just the blogs that are members of MetaxuCafe. I think that will be a good resource for everyone looking for literary topics online and you’ll find it right on the front page as well as other places on the site. Now if you want to read about, say Orhan Pamuk, but only want to search the litblogs you trust, you can narrow your search right here.
